USFSP 40th Anniversary Exhibit: From Fiddler Crabs to a Harbor with Class

Special Collections and Archives at the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library developed a 32-panel display to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the University of South Florida's campus along Bayboro Harbor in St. Petersburg. Originally created as an overflow campus for USF Tampa in the summer of 1965, the "Bayboro Campus" became the first regional campus in the State University System of Florida. By 1968, USF St. Petersburg served commuters with upper-level undergraduate and some graduate programs. Lower-level undergraduates began to enroll by the late 1990s, and a few years later faculty and staff at USF St. Petersburg began the process of seeking separate regional accreditation as an entity within the USF System. This exhibit covers the period from the early settlers who came to Bayboro Harbor in the late 1800s through the fortieth anniversary of USFSP in 2005.
